The Tarot Garden

"The Tarot Garden" is located in the island of Lazzaretto Nuovo in Venice, Italy. The project concept is inspired by the legends about ghosts and vampires that populated the island at the time of the plague epidemic in the 12th century, the magical and esoteric traditions of a mysterious Venice that still survive today.

"The Tarot Garden" is the name that has been attributed to the green enclosed within the walls of the Lazzaretto Nuovo, a place strongly influenced by the metaphysical language, not only from a formal point of view through its pure and simple geometries and the contrast between solids and voids, but also from an emotional point of view.

The clear and static representation of objects that describe an immobile and timeless scene, like a dream, aims to grasp the essence beyond the physical appearance of reality, beyond the experience of the senses. Meanings that intend to enhance the memory of the place and that are interpreted by the tarot cards that help to read reality from a different perspective.

The result is a space that has kept the "genius loci", as well as the natural and man-made elements throughout history such as, for example, the statues found during archaeological excavations, reconverted into a place of exhibition, research, creative activities and social and scenography of artistic performances, made usable to the largest and most heterogeneous audience possible.
